Time-served Compositor with CWS Printing Works, Pelaw, Gateshead, starting in 1970 until 1977.Qualified at the Monotype School London on the keyboard in early 70's.Moved 1977 to Speedpress, a typesetting/origination company specialising in Academic Journals for Butterworth. We produced the first Free Sheet Newspaper in the NE, the ''Chester-le-Street and Durham Trader''.I reaquainted myself with John Joyce at Speedpress where we formed Tech-Set Ltd. in 1979, a typesetting company, specialising in Maths and Sciences Publications.Originally typesetting on IBM Composers, we progress to Phototypesetting, then PCs using 3B2 software before moving onto Macs and QuarkXpress. We now typeset using iMac's with Creative Cloud InDesign software with InMaths extensions.We pride ourselves on the quality of our product and the service we give. Now in our 41st year in business, we still have some customers from 1980 and although the technology has changed, the way we produce our work and the standards we set ourselves have not.We work WITH people and our success has been based on this and the service and quality of product we offer. My past involvement with Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club (www.whickhamfellsideyfc.co.uk) for well over 30 years was a joy and was my contribution to our community and the young people within it. Giving something back is important and I was fortunate to work with great volunteers and fantastic kids! I am now retired from that position but spent time back at the Club watching my grandchildren play their football. I was presented with an Award to Youth Football by the FA and also recognised by the Gateshead SSP.Tech-Set will be my legacy and its continued trading is testimony to what John Joyce and I wanted to create in 1979. All of the above would not have been possible without the support of my wife of 45 years, Pauline, and, of course my wonderful family.
