Responsibilities for sample transfer and preparation in the micro lab. Responsible for completing analysis by setting-up laboratory samples and performing routine tests to determine microbial characteristics of Salmonella, E. Coli, and Listeria. Perform tests on food ingredients and environmental sponge and swabs tests. Keep work area clean and free of pathogens.

I have had the opportunity to study particular types of pathogenic bacteria common in cattle in the Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Lots of my work experience has dealt with E-coli, particularly shiga toxin producing E-coli. I have learned different detection methods for different serotypes of E.coli along with other pathogenic bacteria, by studying different virulence factors, vaccination effectiveness, antibiotic resistance and PCR detection methods.

Tested for ammonium, nitrogen, and protein content in wastewaters, surface waters, groundwater, and protein powders by running the kjeldahl unit in the lab. Tested samples by collecting nitrogen and ammonium in erlenmeyer flasks and then titrating the flasks out with sulfuric acid to identify the amount of nitrogen and ammonium. Certified intern, qualified to run and conduct my own data.
