I was responsible for the housing of over £55 million worth of stock (more than 11,000 unique products). Through communication with various departments and sites as well as the extensive use of database software to analyse previous trends and predict future needs of the business, my task was to firstly ensure each product is assigned to the correct area, from a choice of 8 sub sections within the warehouse. This choice revolves around multiple, constantly shifting criteria which are analysed daily. From there, I decided whereabouts in the pick run and how many locations each product is to be given. This again depends on factors which change daily. With the company operating 24 hours a day and over 2 million units picked per week, any minor error is magnified and can cause serious problems. Therefore, a thorough and analytical approach from myself was a must to ensure the effective and efficient running of the operation.
