I was hired to manage a Customer Relations Management (CRM) system containing referrals for 250 senior citizens who requested services from Montrgomery County via the state of Maryland's Department of Human Resources. My job was to assess the needs of the residents and to create service requests with the appropriate program in the department, enter and analyze the data into an Excel spreadsheet, and I trained my colleagues on how to use the system.Additionally, I provide case management services to low-income senior citizens through the Social Services to Adults program.

I served as an intern for the Chief of Aging and Disability Services within the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. I attended the Chief's meetings with constituents and stakeholders and would provide him with follow-up reports on pressing issues in the County. I created a database to highlight potential champions of a bill that sought to increase funding for adult dental coverage in the Medicaid program during the 2017 Maryland General Assembly. I drafted a flyer to recruit professionals to attend a training on financial exploitation of senior citizens. Finally, I was tasked with creating a comparative analysis table to inform the County Council on existing regulations of home health aides for senior citizens and how other states regulate home health aides.

I conducted mental health assessments for men and women experiencing suicidal and homicidal ideation in the Emergency Department of the hospital. My job was to determine if they needed treatment from the psychiatrist in the inpatient unit, and to make appropriate recommendations to the attending physicians in the department.I had a caseload of 15 men and women who were living with HIV and/or Hepatitis-C through the Infectious Disease Department. I provided them with referrals to services in the community and supportive counseling on a monthly basis. This program was funded through a grant, and I collected and entered data to demonstrate compliance with grant requirements and worked on a new grant proposal to ensure the continuation of funding for the program.

I researched the role of character development in New York City adolescents. The participants had completed a year-long character development program called Friends of Nick, and wrote essays about their experiences in the program. I coded and scored 250 essays into data entry software (SPSS and Qualtrics) for qualitative analysis.My second research project examined the use of a spirituality-based intervention in promoting weight loss in obese, inner-city minorities. Using the Spiritual Self-Schema Therapy (3S), a non-theistic manualized protocol originally created for drug users, the 12 participants learned meditation, relaxation, self-compassion, and cognitive-behavioral skills in order to target disordered eating and unhealthy behavioral patterns over the course of 6 group therapy sessions. My responsibilities included data coding and entry, administering informed consent to participants, and supervising the group therapy sessions.
