Linchpin provides independent expertise and advice on investments and governance to pension funds, endowments, and charities. In this capacity, I personally advise three LGPS funds and have served as Independent Chair to the Local Pension Board for two others. Linchpin has recently conducted independent reviews on governance, ESG, investment strategy, and fiduciary management, and is an active commentator in all these areas. One of Linchpin's aims is to bring clients together with the service providers best suited to them. To this end we are part of a network of often young organisations who we like to think are at the cutting edge of their chosen niche and able to add real value to clients' decision-making.Linchpin acts more formally as a consultant to two private sector firms, one providing a set of proven macro-economic data and analysis, the other a Japanese equity boutique.

The Board's legal remit is one of scrutiny and oversight, but in practice it uses the experience of its members to provide expertise and feedback to help the executive board administer the pension scheme effectively. My role was to guide the LPB to a meaningful role within the Fund's governance structure, and to work with the various stakeholders. The initial four year term was extended for a further four years and then a further six months.

I was asked to take on a temporary role as Interim Pension Manager of the Berkshire Pension Fund while the incumbent was absent on medical leave. For the duration of this appointment I was responsibility for the management of the investment portfolio and reporting to the Investment Working Group and Pension Fund Panel. During this period, inter alia I completed the process of getting Pension Fund Panel approval for the Fund's long term strategy, organised a mini-competition resulting in a mandate award from an existing framework agreement, and reviewed and made recommendations for investing in credit over the next few years. I also set up a project to provide clearer and more consistent asset information to the Fund's stakeholders, and identified an error in the third party performance measurement calculations. I remain as an Independent Advisor to the Fund.

WB Associates was the precursor of Linchpin, and focused on institutional fund marketing, and giving investment advice

I joined to attract institutional capital to Sofaer. I hired one sales executive, and in two years we soft closed their Japanese long short hedge fund, with AUM rising from $11mn to $200mn.

Tokyo, Japan

I was seconded to manage Scudder's Tokyo office (40 staff) temporarily. When new local management was appointed, I took over responsibility for global marketing of the Japanese equity product. AUM rose from under $1bn to over $4bn between 2000 and 2002.

I was named fund manager for five global unit trusts and ten other offshore funds. I had responsibility for the asset allocation process, and was a member of the four man asset allocation committee.
