Throughout the course of this internship, I was tasked with a variety of different responsibilities. These included the development of piping and instrumentation diagrams for a chemical plant (specifics of the plant are bound by NDA), specifically regarding the distribution of heating and cooling utilities throughout the plant. Additionally, I was tasked with creating equipment specification sheets for heat exchangers and vessels which were then used by other employees to get quotes on plant equipment. Cost estimation was also a responsibility of mine in which I utilized excel to estimate the overall cost of all the instrumentation and valves throughout the entirety of the plant. I also performed analyses on equipment operating in an existing plant, including heat transfer analysis between the heating utility and the contents within a reactor, as well as comparing theoretical product accumulation to physical data. Finally, I also got on-site experience creating as-built P&IDs for new additions to an existing plant.
