Monitors emission levels and keeps engines running in compliance with permitted levels. Must maintain accurate records of all engine/compressor analysis and emission testing. Monitors rotating equipment (reciprocating engines, compressors, fans, pumps, etc.) utilizing electronic analyzing equipment. Examines, analyzes and troubleshoots equipment for defects in operation. The Analyst detects and corrects minor problems before the affect the performance or cause major failures of the equipment. Strives for optimum performance and reliability of the equipment. From time to time the Analyst will help mechanics with troubleshooting and repairs. Frequently works with the environmental representative scheduling and completing 3rd party emissions testing and performs emissions testing on designated equipment. Calibrates and maintains equipment.

GSMs operate, repair and perform organizational and intermediate maintenance on mechanical components of gas turbine engines, main propulsion machinery including gears, shafts and controllable pitch propellers; and assigned auxiliary equipment and propulsion control systems.
