Oversee the operation of a high complexity genetics laboratory that focuses on delivery of Next Generation Care Testing. Next Generation Care Testing uses the information found in a body site to guide therapeutic decisions. For example, chronic wounds are infected with multiple bacterial species that often cannot be diagnosed using traditional technology. Using DNA sequencing, we can identify organisms in the wound that may be impacting healing and/ or causing infection. Our company has developed several assays that have been launched into the clinical arena. My team is responsible for all aspects of sample handling from receipt to report. I oversee a talented team of programmers, biologists, bioinformaticians, and geneticists that deliver exceptional results. Lead a team of laboratory technicians, scientists, bioinformaticists and support personnel in a clinical genetics laboratory. There are three primary products offered through our lab; Pharmacogenomics, Women's Health, and Oncology. Our team uses multiple technologies to provide physicians information about their patient's genetics and how it affects their medication responses (Pharmacogenomics). Combining my experience as a clinician and scientist, I have led the efforts of re-designing the report to focus on actionable intelligence.Our team developed and brought to market a unique next generation sequencing assay for women's health (Gynecologene). This assay is designed to test for a variety of conditions that affect women's reproductive health, including bacterial vaginosis, candidia vaginitis, HPV and sexually transmitted infections from a single swab. Unlike other assays on the market, this swab is unbiased and allows physicians to assess the full microbiome. In the oncology field, we offer a panel that assesses for actionable mutations in the tumor that can be used to guide therapy. Our assay sequences 80 genes and examines over 2800 mutations known to influence cancer progression. On the informatics side, I have led development of bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines used for analysis of next generation sequencing data. Responsible for oversight of GLP and CAP/CLIA genetics assays. Developed a high throughput pipeline for interpretation of Autogenomics Infiniti pharmacogenomics, Luminex, and Genmark products. Led development efforts to improve genotyping of single nucleotide polymorphisms of genes responsible for medication metabolism and caridac risk using the Ion Torrent PGM system. Also using the Ion Torrent PGM, developed and implemented a first of its kinds women's health assay (Gynecologene). Responsible for day to day operations of clinical lab with specific oversight of data review. Led data analysis efforts for multiple projects simultaneously.

Cancer researcher studying microRNA dysregulation contributing to prostate tumor initiation, progression and metastasis.Emphasis on systems approaches to identify non-coding RNA molecules that contribute to the development of prostate cancer. Our unique approach intersected theoretical networks biology methods that leveraged the power of 100's of studies to identify patterns of miRNA dysregulation, high throughput miRNA arrays, and reverse phase proteomics to identify key nodes within the cell that are affected during tumorigenesis. Our approach identified two key miRNAs that affect a key pathway in the cell that when over activated causes uncontrolled proliferation and increases invasive potential. Our group has extended our efforts to search for miRNAs expressed in all body fluids using next generation sequencing technologies. The goals of this project are two fold. One- identify unique miRNAs that can be used as forensic markers that can distinguish body fluids left at a crime scene. Two- compare urine, blood, semen of patients with cancer and without to identify miRNAs that may serve as markers of prostate cancer.
