Worked as a software engineering intern with the core development team of the MIT App Inventor Project. App Inventor is an MIT project working out of the Media Lab with over 6.2 million registered users. MIT App Inventor is an innovative beginner's introduction to programming and app creation that transforms the complex language of text-based coding into visual, drag-and-drop building blocks. The simple graphical interface grants even an inexperienced novice the ability to create a basic, fully functional app within an hour or less.My work included:➢ Created unit tests for new App Inventor components.➢ Implemented Google Web Toolkit (GWT) UI/UX bug fixes.➢ Modernized the look and feel of property editors in the App Inventor designer.➢ Developed a user authentication and database partitioning scheme for the FirebaseDB App Inventor component.➢ Modified the App Inventor compiler to allow 3rd party App Inventor component developers to dynamically edit AndroidManifest.xml.

Mentor with the MIT Media Lab's Center for Mobile Learning as part of the 2016 Google Summer of Code.Summary:Mentored a student selected through the Google Summer of Code program on expanding the IoT capabilities of App Inventor. Specifically, we worked on integrating the functionality of the Raspberry PI computer into App Inventor. The Raspberry Pi is a small, highly affordable linux computer that can easily interact with embedded systems requiring a microcontroller. For more information on the Raspberry PI, it's wikipedia page is a good starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi.Project: IoT: Raspberry Pi Integration with MIT App InventorStudent Mentee: Thilanka MunasingheProject Description:Mobile Applications and smart devices are becoming an ever more important and ubiquitous part of our everyday lives. Mobile phones represented the first wave of smaller personal computers. And now, as the price of electronics and processing power continues to fall, there is an intersection between sensors and other electromechanical devices and computers that live on the edge of the Internet: close to the source of the data, processing the data locally and sending just what is required to other computers to consume. The vast growing applications of machine-to-machine technology, in general the Internet of Things (IoT), is increasing and changing the future of computing as well as lifestyle of the modern tech driven civilization. The MIT App Inventor along with Raspberry Pi can provide additional functionalities to the developers to build applications to the emerging market of IoT. The Raspberry Pi component in MIT App Inventor can benefit the current and future MIT App Inventor community to exercise their existing knowledge and skills to contribute to the emerging areas of IoT.Additional Links:MIT CML: https://www.media.mit.edu/research/center-mobile-learningGoogle Summer of Code: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/
