Starting in 2017, I led a small team that developed an online game commissioned by a professor for a new class entitled Introduction to Research. The main goal of this project was to replace traditional homework with a more interactive and exciting medium. The project gave me valuable experience working on and leading a team, managing a large code and asset repository, and planning and scheduling progress milestones months in advance. The professor that commissioned the project granted me significant creative and technical freedom, which allowed me to choose which third party services or platforms we would use, design the format of the game, determine the best way to implement each required technical system, and then to implement each one myself. Once the game was completed and the class finally became a reality, I served as a TA during the pilot quarter, correcting the occasional technical error, answering students’ questions about the game, and processing their grades.
