I focus on employment law, spending a majority of my time on advice and counsel work, with the remaining time dedicated to defending employers of all sizes against wage and hour claims, and a variety of other employment claims (e.g. harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination etc.) in litigation and administrative matters. Advice and Counsel highlights:• counsel employers on a wide range of employee relations issues, such as recruiting, hiring, employee performance, discipline, transfers, medical-related accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, contingent labor, terminations and reductions in force.• prepare and revise employee handbooks to incorporates changes to federal, state and local laws, including developments in emerging areas, such as lactation accommodations. • train managers and staff on harassment, bullying, retaliation and other employment topics that impact the workplace. • specialize in helping employers comply with state and local ban-the-box initiatives, including drafting employment checklists, pre-adverse action and adverse action lettersLitigation and administrative work highlights:• drafted and submitted numerous responses to agency complaints, resulting in case closures in favor of my clients. I've also prepared witnesses for agency interviews. • taken and defended depositions, prepared and filed motion papers, and strategized with clients to limit their liability exposure in single plaintiff, multi-plaintiff, and wage and hour class actions.• negotiated a very favorable settlement of a single plaintiff harassment and discrimination case that the mediator acknowledged was the lowest settlement amount he has witnessed in his long career.• negotiated with opposing counsel to dismiss causes of action without engaging in costly motion practice, saving clients money and time.
