I chair one of IFoA’s longest-running GI working parties, which seeks to understand and disseminate best practice reserving processes, provide ideas around how to address challenges and issues and ensure a sound comprehension of emerging trends in reserving process requirements.

Leading Risk challenge team and Internal model validation, stress/scenario testing and deep dives for EO business working with Exec

Interim role leading asset/capital team for financial risk, stress/scenario testing, ORSA, internal model validation and managing asset/capital risk team for central fund / syndicate review.

I directed Assurant’s Actuarial function for the UK, EU, APAC and ANZ, as an SIMR 20 approved person, and a mandatory attendee of the Audit, Risk and Compliance committee in UK and Holland.Building a high-performance Actuarial team from the integration of Assurant and The Warranty Group, I directed delivery of all actuarial output for multiple entities.In addition, I led strategic initiatives that enhanced the value and output of the function, including creation of a single Actuarial Function Report framework, and consolidation of multiple reserving / capital systems onto one platform for UK / Europe. I was a key contributor to the establishment of an EU entity in preparation for Brexit, and led business impact reviews of a wide range of high-priority regulatory, pricing/commercial and actuarial issues.On a global level, I supported an enterprise-wide finance transformation which selected a global reserving platform for the business, and worked with US leadership team on the governance and controls of the Global Pricing Model.

Heading Risk, Actuarial and Data Protection Office functions for TWG Europe, I was a member of the Global Leadership Team for Actuarial / Underwriting, and chaired the Management Risk Audit and Compliance Committee and Reserve Committee, holding SIMR 4 and SIMR 20 approved person status.I led the redesign of the risk management framework, including the ORSA risk assessment process, and overhauled capital modelling for USP approval from the PRA. I also launched a new system of governance that included establishing Reserving, New Business / Pricing, Capital, Investment and Data Governance Committees.

Interim Chief Actuary role for turn-around business TWG Europe

Interim Role as Model Validation Lead for Hiscox Lloyds Internal Model for Solvency 2 for key risk dependency across CRO and Capital Functions. I supported independent model validation risk across commercial and personal lines.

Appointed to the General Insurance Business Practice to build out a pre-sales and consulting capability for the global launch of GI Prophet, I led go-to-market strategy and built a diverse team of actuarial talent for the launch.Additionally, I established a Board Risk consulting practice for Europe, APAC and LatAm, creating CRO thought leadership pieces.

I led Business Planning and Actuarial, building a high-performance team in Reserving, Financial Reporting, Risk Control, Capital Modelling, Foresting and ESG. As Actuarial Function Holder for the LPI business, I attended Board and ARCC meetings, and was chair of the Reserving Committee and Capital Committee.Major initiatives included development of an actuarial modelling system with full cash flow forecasting model, the pre-application process for the partial internal model, and actuarial response to regulator reviews.

Senior Actuarial role across GI and Life as Deputy Chief Actuary. Over this period, William built a Finance Actuarial Function from 4 heads to 18 through recruitment, internal promotions, training and team development to cover the following areas: Solvency 2, Capital Modelling, Forecasting, Reserving (US and UK/European covering Premium/Claim Reserving) and Actuarial Controllership, with oversight of Assumptions/Experience Analysis. He has also built intellectual capital in the areas of ERM/risk management through 16 published papers/seminars ’08-14.
