In this role I provided support for the Account Management Office of the Office for Information & Technology at the Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role I did the following:▪ Collected and analyzed data for budget planning purposes, identified and mitigated shortfalls by proposing opportunities to reallocate funds to areas of need.▪ Tracked performance of portfolio projects against schedule and budget milestones. This included reaching out to appropriate project managers to acquire necessary data to relay to portfolio staff and Business Owners. ▪ Provided informal briefings to the Information Technology Account Manager regarding project status against deadlines and budget.▪ Developed weekly reporting documents that the portfolio ITAM presented to the VA Chief Information Officer▪ Authored multiple white papers, issue papers, and topic briefs for the portfolio ITAM and VA CIO. ▪ Authored portfolio’s submission to the Account Management Office’s Business Operations Plan.

I held this role in two different stints before (October 2007-January 2010) and after (November 2016-May 2018) I completed my Bachelors and Masters degrees. In this role I did the following:▪ Co-managed all aspects of a retail business that achieved up to $25 million in annual sales and supervised up to 130 employees while maintaining consistent performance in KPIs, P&L, inventory results, and other metrics.▪ Developed and managed relationships with third party vendors to ensure exceptional consumer experiences.▪ Conducted routine supervisory reviews of departments to ensure compliance to company standards as well as federal and state laws (OSHA, DoA, HIPPA, etc) ▪ Performed HR administrative functions such as screening and interviewing applicants, hiring and firing employees, scheduling, and provided candid feedback thru annual evaluation process.▪ Advised Washington South Region and Northern Division leadership (including the Northern Division VP) regarding enterprise-wide initiatives, changes in the market place, and barriers to the execution of the company’s Best Practices. ▪ In 2010, moved to Produce Lead Trainer role to accommodate university studies. Resumed role after completing Master of Public Policy degree in 2016.

I was fortunate to have company leadership who allowed me to accept this role during my time in college in order to remain employed while completing my education. During this period I accomplished the following:▪ Responsible for one “home” department as well as the technical training of store leadership (department heads and salaried managers) across 25 other sites in the Washington South Region.▪ Conducted routine site visits to Washington South Region locations to audit store conditions. Evaluated real time conditions via “On Site Reports” to Director of Operations and the Execution/Implementation Specialists for the Washington South Region to provide awareness and improve Executive decision-making.▪ Led the implementation of technical systems such as “Computer Assisted Ordering” across 25 Produce Departments. Gathered data on the functionalities and capabilities of technical systems, and provided training to store-level employees by translating technical/business jargon to practical guidance on how to most effectively use the new system. Further supported adoption and implementation of the new system collecting data for risk mitigation and lessons learned materials.▪ Researched and investigated data from multiple reports (weekly sales, IPCT, item distribution, days on hand, item level variance reports) to identify opportunities for improvement across 25 stores; identifying problems and solutions to reduce shrink loss/margin loss, maximize profitable sales, and optimize processes.

During the Fall 2015 semester, on my days off from my full time job, I had the privilege of interning at the College of International Security Affairs at National Defense University. While there I conducted extensive research for professors teaching courses in “Maritime Security” and “Strategic Thought.”and had the opportunity to further develop skills proofing and editing written work to be published in Military journals.

After finishing my BA in Global Affairs, I was granted the honor to intern with the Middle East Program on my days off from work. Because of my performance, I was invited to stay beyond original one semester term twice by MEP Director. While there I did the following:▪ Provided timely, accurate, peer reviewed statistics and facts to the MEP Director in preparation for media interviews and public presentations to large audiences. ▪ Developed materials and set up venues for MEP Public Events.▪ Wrote concise one-pagers summarizing MEP Public Events which are published on the Wilson Center website.▪ Proofed, edited, and provided quality control for written work published by Wilson Center scholars.▪ Managed databases for collected research, points of contact, and media lists.▪ Formulated technical training documents for future staff interns with MEP.
