During my academic career as a mathematical biologist I have both built models of biological systems and developed mathematical tools to better understand properties of these models. Applied work includes:- Developing a model for serotonin metabolism, which was used to better understand the role of histamine in depression. - Extending a model for lipid metabolism to study nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. This work was done during an internship in the quantitative systems pharmacology group at Pfizer. Theoretical work includes:- Showing that efficient computations for a class of Boolean-like models can be rigorously extended to a broader class of smooth differential equations.- Studying how the topology of a network constrains or contributes to a network's dynamics.
