As a recognized technical expert in Engineering Research and Development, I have developed new and industry-leading products in environments highly regulated by agencies such as the FDA and NASA, including new in-vitro diagnostic medical device technologies in high-throughput, high-precision, automated clinical chemistry and immunochemistry laboratory instrumentation. Siemens honored my expertise and achievements by promoting me to “Senior Key Expert” (aka Engineering “Fellow”). In addition, I have been appointed as an Affiliated Professor at the University of Delaware. As a Senior Key Expert in the Siemens Healthineers Center for Innovation in Diagnostics, I investigated promising new technologies with the potential to revolutionize the clinical laboratory industry, including microfluidic lab-on-a-chip devices. Additionally, I incorporated AI/Machine Learning into clinical instrumentation by developing a convolutional neural network (CNN) to analyze time-series process monitoring data, improving the performance of on-board instrument liquid transfer quality checks by a remarkable 98%. During my time as Precision Fluidics Technology Lead Engineer, I created innovative, low-cost, high-performance and reliable designs using fundamental engineering principles and advanced techniques such as Mechatronics, Robust Optimization with Design for Six Sigma (DfSS), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Modeling, and Set-based design methodology. I have led multiple engineering teams with Scrum methodologies to create robotic and fluidic systems that transfer, deliver, and mix liquid volumes in the microliter range with nanoliter precision. I value highly collaborative work environments that bring together multidisciplinary teams to design products as a complete system. I utilize the unique skills and backgrounds of all contributors to the best advantage for the project and business. My strengths include clearly communicating difficult or complex topics or ideas, and I enjoy advancing the capability of the team and the organization through mentoring, training, and institution of best practices. With my services and expertise in high demand, time management has become a critical skill. Previously, I developed instrumentation for biomedical research in microgravity, supporting four Space Shuttle missions, a mission to the MIR space station, and several unmanned missions. Besides design, testing, and integration, my accomplishments included training of astronauts and on-site mission support at Kennedy Space Center.
