Twelve-month placement conducting neuroscience research into the mouse calyx of Held synapse in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology:-Observed fluctuations in pH and ATP consumption during high-frequency electrical stimulation at the calyx synapse using fluorescent reporters. -Investigated tissue clearing techniques to improve the quality of synapse images taken using laser scanning confocal microscopy. Published an article on this topic (see below). -Had the opportunity to attend numerous neuroscience seminars from visiting professors and weekly journal club sessions to discuss innovations in the scientific literature. -Designed and managed a website for my allocated laboratory, The Renden Lab, to propagate our research and advertise to prospective students (see below).
