In my position as an IBX Technician, I am part of the team responsible for providing 24/7 support to the Equinix data centres and our customers. This includes but is not limited to: smart (remote) hands support, installation and maintenance of equipment and systems, and interconnectivity of customers to each other and to Equinix through the installation of cross connects. Responsibilities include:Racking and connecting customer equipment, including, servers, routers, switches, firewalls and other devices as required.Installing/Testing//troubleshooting of cross connects and ensuring proper cable management of fiber and UTP cross connects.Provide world class support on smart hands and trouble tickets tickets raised by customers. These can include anything from cabinet/cage audits to troubleshooting and maintenance of servers and anything in between.Escort, supervise and assist customers and suppliers.Monitoring of EMS/BMS systems and customer equipment, escalating any issues as required to the relevant personnel.Respond to alarms and incidents in accordance with Equinix procedures.Perform and provide any assistance required on daily system checks and daily activity reports, which allows us to maintain records for all work activities and inbound/shipments and provides the following shifts instant visibility on any issues which they may need to be aware of.Ensuring adherence to all pre-defined SLAs.Create and continually improve internal and externally-facing controlled documentation.Supporting senior core engineers and management in the completion of projects on-going in the IDC.Performing routine tasks which ensure the upkeep and operational readiness of Equinix’s IDC environment.Perform and verify data backups through daily scheduled daily tape rotations and informing customer both of successfully performed rotations and contacting them for any issues which may arise.
