Board Member for Wicomico County

A former prosecutor with over 20 years of trial experience and an Eastern Shore native, I grew up on the Shore and graduated from Worcester Preparatory School in Berlin, Maryland, and then received my undergraduate education from Salisbury University. I received my J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and returned home upon graduation to serve as a law clerk for the Circuit Court for Wicomico County. Since that time, I have been in court daily and tried over 100 jury trials to verdict and thousands of District Court trials. I am active in the local community and served as the campaign treasurer for Somerset County State's Attorney Daniel Powell. I have been recognized by my peers for my success in court and often sought for my advice by other attorneys and serve as local counsel in complex litigation and jury trials. AV Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell and a member of Super Lawyers and named a Fellow to the American Bar Foundation.

Responsible for advising the Board of the liquor laws contained in Article 2B of the Maryland Annotated Code. Duties include: assisting the Board in public hearings, consulting with the Board, its individual members and staff concerning various civil and criminal matters, responding to requests under the Maryland Public Information Act.

Attorney volunteer supporting the Maryland National Guard and rendering legal assistance to soldier families.

Prosection fo crimes in both the District and Circuit Courts of Dorchester County including Juvenile offenses. Duties included: Prosecutor for the Dorchester County Narcotics Force, Special Prosecutor for Wicomico County, civil forfeiture actions, reviewed search warrants, after hours "on call" attorney, Top Gun Undercover Drug Law Enforcement Training - MD State Police. Received Award of Recognition for successful prosecution presented by the Dorchester County Narcotics Task Force (2004).

Extensive litigation involving complex criminal matters including felonies and jury trials. Trial experience in both the District and Circuit Courts of Maryland. Duties included: training new attorneys, representation of clients from arrest to trial (average 40 cases per week), and assisting senior attorneys.

Litigated civil, domestic, and criminal matters in both the District and Circuit Courts of Maryland; experience in Federal Bankruptcy matters. Duties included: one on one interviews with clients, quoting fees for services, researching law and drafting documents, and representation of civil and criminal clients in court.

Drafted court opinions and orders on a wide range of criminal and civil matters. Researched, summarized and evaluated pre-trial motions. Calculated state criminal sentencing guidelines. Attended trials, hearings and conferences.
