* Building community RAs help to create a sense of community by planning activities, encouraging students to get involved, and promoting open communication. They also help to establish community norms and ground rules. * Supporting students RAs are available to students and can provide guidance on academic, personal, and social matters. They can also help students to make the most of their college experience. * Responding to emergencies RAs are responsible for responding to emergencies and serious illnesses, and for reporting them to the appropriate authorities. They should also be able to instruct residents on evacuation procedures and the use of fire-fighting equipment. * Maintaining documentation RAs are responsible for documenting incidents and behaviors that conflict with college policy. They may also complete written reports. *Assisting with administration RAs may distribute university materials, assist with room assignments, and help with room inspections.Participating in professional development RAs may participate in training sessions and attend staff meetings. They may also help to recruit and train new RAs. * RAs should have strong communication skills, patience, and a sense of humor. They should also be able to get along with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Lead Beyond’s summer internship program in partnership with Montreat College allows students the opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience overseas. In this expatriate internship program, coordination for the USAID Learning Project was the primary focus. Work included regional travel to capital cities beyond Addis Ababa where the center of activity took place. Coordination of USAID, Mercy Corps, World Vision, CRS, and other NGO activities took place during the course of the summer. The role reported to the Africa Regional Director and assisted with human development and leadership development for the good of government and non-government entities.
