Working alongside two experienced Control and Instrumentation technicians and as part of a wider maintenance team to plan, react and undertake maintenance associated activities on control and instrumentation equipment and systems. Routinely drawing upon my persistence, problem solving skills and technical knowledge to resolve emergent issues on plant and maximise the operational availability of the generation units. My job responsibilities include: Planning preventative, routine and reactive maintenance. Fault rectification. Fault diagnosis. Work package management. Directly involved in the daily management of three C&I craftsmen and one C&I craftsmen apprenticeship. Providing technical supervision for C&I craftsmen and C&I associated maintenance tasks. Creating risk assessments and method statements. Plan maintenance activities on a CMMS (computer maintenance management system), PRISM. Post outage commissioning. Working flexibly to suit the requirements of the employer. The following systems and equipment fall within my responsibilities as a C&I technician: all instrumentation, transmitters, water analysers, pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, control systems, turbine supervisory instrumentation equipment, gas detection, gas chromatography, flow meter instrumentation, fire detection and extinguishing equipment, CCTV systems, environmental analysis equipment (CEMS).

My career in the power generation industry started in September 2015 at Pembroke Power Station as a power technician trainee. This IET accredited level 4 and 5 higher apprenticeship is split into two stages. The first stage compromises of two years studying and completing my HNC as well as undertaking technical courses at RWE’s technical training centre in Ferrybridge to provide me with an firm understanding in a variety of engineering subjects. In the final two years I specialised in the control and instrumentation discipline, working alongside engineers, technicians and craftsman to develop my knowledge and experience within the discipline. These final two years were designed to progress my skills so that I could be competent, capable and confident control and instrumentation technician at Pembroke Power Station.
