Bill Hoffmann is a founding member of the national law firm Grotefeld, Hoffmann, Gordon, Ochoa, and Evinger, LLP. He has been engaged in the subrogation industry for over thirty-five years, concentrating on wildfire matters, products liability, and mass torts. Mr. Hoffmann has achieved an AV Preeminent Martindale-Hubbell rating, the highest possible rating for an attorney in both ethical standards and legal ability.Mr. Hoffmann attended Wolsey Hall, Oxford, England, and graduated with a BA from Lake Forest College in 1989. He then obtained his JD from The John Marshall Law School in 1993. His extensive experience in the insurance industry includes roles as a claims adjuster and later as a subrogation specialist at one of the nation’s largest insurance carriers. After earning his law license, Mr. Hoffmann transitioned from the insurance industry to working as an attorney at one of the world’s largest law firms, where he handled large property loss, first-party coverage disputes, and bad faith matters.Mr. Hoffmann has a broad range of litigation experience, having prosecuted thousands of subrogation claims with a focus on large fire losses, wildfires, mass torts, and MDL/class action matters. He currently serves as national coordinating litigation counsel for several of the largest insurance companies in the nation, leading the litigation and arbitration of all products liability claims against five of the largest market share home product manufacturers in the United States. Mr. Hoffmann has successfully consolidated product liability claims against manufacturers, combining hundreds of subrogation claims into single lawsuits. He has also appeared before the Federal Court Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, advocating for the formation of an MDL for certain product liability claims. Additionally, he has represented some of the world’s largest insurance carriers in MDL litigation involving product defect cases, defending their collective subrogation interests. He has been appointed as lead counsel in mass tort cases before the federal MDL court and currently leads several large mass tort cases nationally.Mr. Hoffmann has held numerous lead counsel positions and has recently been appointed as Co-Executive Counsel for the subrogees in the anti-theft MDL involving Kia and Hyundai. He also serves as liaison counsel in several wildfire matters, including the Coastal wildfire, Saddle Ridge wildfire, and the Lahaina Hawaii wildfire.Bill has considerable speaking and writing history which has included speaking at major conferences and events.
