Retail Assistant Manager
CurrentI supervise a sales floor worked by a dedicated helping, friendly 15-member team at a retail establishment specializing in technical and lifestyle apparel and gear. From my viewpoint, my position encompasses six primary roles:1. SUPERVISOR A duty manager must be constantly aware in a 12,000 sq. ft. store often patrolled by only 3 employees. I ensure all floor operations run with smooth efficiency. I handle customer service problems quickly and effectively. 2. MENTOR/MOTIVATOR It is extremely fortuitous we attract a salesforce so excited about what we sell. Our employees love hiking, kayaking, fly fishing, and rock climbing. Being a dream job for so many makes it easier to motivate staff.I encourage employees, giving praises and pointers for improvement. I thank them for a job well done, I effectively delegate to give empowerment and a feeling of contribution. I discourage a stuffy work environment, without autonomy, where every task must be overprogrammed. We work hard and we play hard. We have fun, we laugh,and we relate to customers with a smile. This equates to a relaxed shopping environment. My team closes sales.3. TRAINER/COACH Every day I aim to present product knowledge to employees they can utilize in the selling process. Knowing their merchandise enhances their proficiency in highlighting product benefits meeting client purchasing needs. 4. DEPARTMENTAL LIAISON I serve as the local Greensboro eyes and ears for our team of buyers and retail support in the central headquarters. 5. COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST I conduct workshops, such as boot purchasing clinics. I take the store on the road for grassroots events, such as booths at festivals, markets and shows.6. MERCHANDISER I place emphasis on vibrant creative merchandising and easy-to-shop arrangement, making customer decision-making easier. Every day UPS delivers new, exciting product and I make it pop on the sales floor.
