I was tasked with the provision of dedicated security for the House of Commons. Serving as a specially employed officer, I was tasked inside the House of Commons to ensuring exacting security around senior politicians. This entailed thorough screening individuals visiting in this environment; assessing and mitigating risk. My role included full awareness, in readiness of application, of a range of high security protocols including priority evacuation procedures, high alert safeguards and safe locations for movement of key individuals. I held security clearance to move in, and have access to, the highest security environments in order to consistently test and exercise escape procedures. This intense and complex position required the most measured approach, managing potential risk and ensuring readiness for ‘worst case’ scenarios. I demonstrated the ability to think quickly and accurately, often under pressure, to successfully assess evolving and demanding circumstances. During this time, I also served within a dedicated control room. Utilising my depth of knowledge of the building, I demonstrated the ability to think quickly and accurately assess and manage risk. I brought a clear and calm approach to intelligently assess for risk of harm or threat and ensured that appropriate responses were implemented. I worked in liaison with close protection teams to ensure all aspects of the security provision met with requirements. I assessed and prioritised threats and risk presented through letters and email correspondence; escalating response as appropriate.

Serving as a specialist residential protection officer, I undertook and variety of roles. I served within Her Majesty The Queen’s closest security detail; monitoring visitors received and ensuring the relevance of staff presence within this close environment. My previous role in this command was the provision of security to ensure the safety of high profile visitors to the royal residences across the UK. My duties included the proactive engagement in state visits, providing security and protection to high profile individuals. I also provided internal security for visiting foreign royals staying at hotels; ensuring continuity of hotel staff and providing overview of building security and medical emergency resilience.I also managed the threat of fixated individuals, delivering security briefings to police, services personnel and personal protection officers to ensure vigilance. I directed initiatives to identify and manage these often high threat individuals and the risk they posed to the Royal Family.

Within an armed response team, I provided security and policing for Heathrow airport and its surrounding area. This role required the ability to think quickly and accurately in order to assess fast time situations in response to threat. I proactively managed the security around visiting dignitaries including members of parliament, government ministers, heads of state and foreign royal families. I undertook proactive counterterrorism patrols; working in partnership with UK Border Force, airport authorities and outside constabularies to minimise threat to national safety. I managed a diverse range of high risk and volume incidents across all terminal buildings and landside locations including disruptive passengers, prisoner escorts for extraditions and general law enforcement. I consistently demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills, calmly and effectively diffusing and managing the most heightened situations; influencing effectively to ensure positive outcomes. During this time, I was tasked to write and deliver airport security plans, and liaise, in reference to the use of airside suites used by visiting dignitaries. I devised detailed planning around the implementation of evacuation procedures, hospital routes and safe relocation points.

I undertook a wide range of training and development to build a strong foundation of enquiry, observation and personal interaction. I undertook a variety of operational roles, including providing immediate response to critical incidents and for the management of a wide range of operational activities. I brought a thoughtful and considered approach to my work, processing information quickly and accurately and exercising exceptional conflict management skills and an ability to connect meaningfully with people even in the most challenging of circumstances. During this time, I was also responsible for a neighbourhood watch area, driving greater community interaction to secure a reduction in crime offending and deliver a significant increase in public confidence and intelligence sharing.I was also selected to become a Home Office recognised licensed search officer; conducting specialist searches of premises and substantial geographic areas. I provided specialist skills and lead teams within high profile murder, kidnap and terrorism investigations and serious crime operations.
