Retired Corporal Pennsylvania State PolicePennsylvania State Police Jul 1994 - Jun 2019Bucks County AreaSCOPE: Supervisor for unit, tasked with making on-call roster and insuring coverage for service calls 24/7 in 3-county area.STORY: I was assigned to investigate the report of a commercial fire, a suspected case of arson. Arson is a particularly serious crime as it not only robs property owners and insurers of value, it puts occupants and first responders in danger of injury or death because of fast moving flames and unpredictability due to the use of accelerants. I conducted a thorough scene examination, gathered evidence, and conducted multiple interviews to determine the fire was definitely caused by arson.Although I did not have the evidence I needed to make an arrest, I persisted with conducting additional interviews, analyzing phone records, and using consensual wiretaps. I traveled throughout several counties, working long hours to identify and arrest the responsible parties.I finally had enough evidence to present to a Grand Jury and charge two male subjects with arson and related charges. Both subjects were found guilty, sentenced to lengthy state prison terms, and ordered to pay $48,000 in restitution. -
Patrol SupervisorPennsylvania State Police Feb 2007 - Jun 2011Bucks , Montgomery And Philadelphia CountiesSCOPE: Promoted to rank of Corporal. Supervised patrol, criminal investigations, and other units on a daily basis, ensuring all patrolmen understood their duties and responsibilities. Assisted personnel in handling serious incidents.STORY: I continually sought to improve policies and procedures with recommendations derived from field observation. I created and enforced DUI Strikeforce details, and I was routinely assigned to Operation Triggerlock in Philadelphia to patrol high crime areas on weekends. This was a joint enforcement program involving teams of multiple city and regional law enforcement agencies, looking for traditional gang and drug cases to be prosecuted under federal weapons laws which came with longer mandatory sentences. We conducted warrant sweeps and arrested multiple individuals on drug and weapons charges. We also made traffic arrests and recovered stolen vehicles.During this period, automobile crashes declined 12% and fatal crashes declined 40%. Hit-and-run crashes declined 2%, and there were no DUI fatalities.
