Based within the leading UK offshore energy research Universities and Institutes, the IDCORE programme was set up to train world-class industrially focused research engineers who will, with the help of sponsoring companies, accelerate the deployment of offshore wind, wave and tidal-current technologies in order to meet the UK's ambitious offshore renewable energy targets.This programme involves a taught component based at the University of Edinburgh for 9 months, before carrying out research at a sponsoring company (Zyba Limited) for 3 years.

As part of the IDCORE programme, I carried out research and work into Composite Materials for use in the CCell wave energy device. The CCell paddle is a curved device which converts the surge motion in ocean waves into energy.My main responsibilities at Zyba were the through life composite design and manufacture of the paddle. This has utilised commercial and custom-made analytic and numerical codes to model the structural response of our paddle to the waves. Using a range of tools including CAD and FEM, the CCell device has moved from lab scale in-house production to production of ocean-going prototype units.

Isis Neutron And Muon Source

Worked as a sandwich placement student with the support team at ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. Was responsible for developing new or more efficient procedures for lab instruments, including X-Ray Fluorencence, Powder and Single Crystal X-Ray Diffraction, Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS), and Physical Property Measurement Systems (PPMS). Interacted with a wide range of scientists, both within and external to ISIS, in assisting with their research within the lab.
