My name is William Kish and I am in my fourth year at Cal Poly as a Mechanical Engineer. When I first came to Cal Poly, I thought I was going to be a designer, an architect. I always had a fascination with building mock-ups and testing prototypes, making them functional but aesthetically pleasing. However, when I became a part of the Future Fuels Club, where we convert waste vegetable oil from campus into usable biodiesel using a biodiesel reactor, and Super-mileage Club, where we design and build a capsule to get 700 miles per gallon, I realized that I was possibly in the wrong major. Making this switch was a difficult and not so straightforward path, and has taught me a lot about perseverance and willingness to get things done. However, this background taught me a lot about the design process and working well with others in teams. It has also forced me to become better at welding, better at 3D modeling, whether thats Solidworks or Rhino, and better at being a team player. Just this last quarter I design a radiant embedded heating system for a community center in Atascadero. I modeled this system in Excel and EES using transient and steady state nodal analysis to determine the tube sizing, spacing, pump size, heat exchanger and expansion tank needed to ensure a maintained room temperature. I am experienced in hands on work as well as more business/social related work. I have taken classes in manufacturing and love building and working on my enduro. I am experienced in Microsoft office and can work with Excel, PowerPoint and Word. I have also taken technical writing and have started my own private tennis business, so I believe I am ready to take on problems regardless the difficulty.
