William L. Martens received a B.A. in Psychology from Miami University, Oxford, OH, in 1978, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, in 1991. He held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Aizu (1999–2003) and also at McGill University, where he served as Sound Recording Area Chair for the Schulich School of Music (2003–2008). In 2009 he joined the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning at The University of Sydney, where he served as Associate Dean (Graduate Research Studies) and also as Head of Discipline (Architectural Science). He served as Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney (2019-2022). He currently serves as Honorary Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. From September 2021, he has held the position of Senior Research Scientist at the National Acoustic Laboratories.
