I am the Director of Lancaster Legal, a boutique Melbourne based law firm specialising in technology, intellectual property and commercial law. In this position, I provide clients with advice with respect to technology licensing, collaborative research ventures, intellectual property registration and protection, commercialisation of technology, data protection, privacy, cyber security and general commercial matters.I graduated from the University of New England and hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours – Biochemistry), majoring in Molecular Biotechnology and Bachelor of Law. I also graduated from The Australian National University and hold a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. In 2000 I received a joint award for the Sigma-Aldrich Prize for Biochemistry.Prior to commencing practice at a boutique technology and commercial law firm in the Melbourne CBD, I worked for 2 years as an Examiner of Patents (Biotechnology) with IP Australia, the Australian government agency responsible for the administration of patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeders rights.I was seconded to the Molecular Plant Breeding CRC, where I was the IP & Contracts Manager (In-House Counsel). In that position I provided authoritative in-house legal support and, in particular, detailed specialist knowledge in biotechnology, patent and commercial matters.I was previously Legal Counsel at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) where I provided legal advice to the materials, manufacturing and mining divisions.Specialties: Provision of advice relating to infringement and validity of patents, copyright and the registration and protection of trade marks;Drafting and reviewing commercial agreements including IP and technology licensing and commercialisation agreements; confidentiality agreements; material transfer agreements; research, consulting and service agreements;IP due diligence, and IP identification, capture, ownership and protection strategies
