I oversaw the security requirements for 400+ Department major information technology systems. I worked closely with Executive and Legislative Branch personnel to formulate cyber security policy and guidance that is applicable to the entire Federal Government. I advised and direct cyber security decision making for the Department concerning risk management, data and network security, cloud and mobile computing, cyber security technical solutions and cyber security policy.

This migration was directed as part of the Department of Defense Base Realignment And Closure Commission of 2005.

I managed staff members that were responsible for the development of proposals, policy, planning, analysis and metrics for major new IT investments. This position allowed me to focus on all aspects of the field of IT security. I had Department-wide responsibility for the compliance with the FISMA, critical infrastructure protection, implementation of Homeland Security Presidential Directives 7 & 12, Internet Protocol version 6 and electronic authentication. I developed the Departmental policy for these areas of responsibility to be implemented by the thirteen Departmental bureaus. I was responsible for the development of the Department’s submission to the National Infrastructure Protection Plan. I was the U.S. Department of Commerce’s representative on the Committee for National Security Systems, the National Communications System’s Committee of Principles and the Electronic Authentication Executive Steering Committee. I had project management responsibility for the design and implementation of an advanced 3D seismic modeling and interpretation system used by 300+ scientist and petroleum engineers. I was the Chief of Automated Data Processing for the Alaska Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Regional Office of the Minerals Management Service. I supervised twelve government computer specialists. I was responsible for providing computer operations and software development services to the Alaska OCS Regional Office. I provided oversight for the day-to-day computer room operations and software development projects. I was the primary microcomputer support staff responsible for providing local area network operations and services. I provided system administrator services for the local area network servers and UNIX-based servers. I repaired computer and communications systems. I provided formal computer training courses to the regional office personnel.
