Three decades in Life Sciences with various roles from leadership to technical consultant. A strong process knowledge coupled with expertise in automation, MES, data, and ontology has led me to new paradigms for delivering MES and Automation solutions aligned with Industry 4.0.The new definition for MES is "Manufacturing Execution Solutions", not "Manufacturing Execution Systems". Implementing Manufacturing Execution Solutions it's not hard and here are the two fundamentals. First, Industry 4.0 is leading to a distributed architecture. No longer will MES be the "system in the middle". Instead, manufacturing functionality will be distributed to smart applications with a message broker serving as the hub. The second fundamental is to use a modular approach that starts with the process definition. The process definition includes ontology based on the S88 Process Model and is aligned with execution and the data analysis.We are embarking on an exciting time that can have high rewards for those who believe in the vision of Industry 4.0 and aligning solutions with the S88 Process Model.
