Bill Malaier is the Chair of Ogden’s Business Group. His practice emphasizes transactional corporate finance matters, as well as bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy insolvency law, including the representation of both debtors and creditors in liquidations and reorganizations under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, appellate work, and representation of trustees in bankruptcy. He is an experienced litigator in state and federal courts, and is familiar with principles of finance and restructuring.Mr. Malaier’s practice also includes the representation of individual and corporate borrowers in connection with commercial lending transactions and workouts, including the documentation, negotiation, and closing of complex commercial loans. In that capacity, he is a member of Ogden's Legal Opinion Committee.Mr. Malaier was recently elected by his peers to the Executive Committee of the Washington State Bar Association’s Creditor-Debtor Section, and in that capacity serves as Chair. He was formerly elected Chair of the King County Bar Association’s Bankruptcy Section. In addition, Mr. Malaier serves on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Education and Training Services (C.E.N.T.S. Program), a non-profit organization dedicated to education of students and senior citizens in matters related to personal finance and debt.Mr. Malaier is a frequent speaker at seminars on bankruptcy law, and recently co-edited the Bankruptcy chapter of the Washington State Bar Association’s Family Law Deskbook. He has been selected as a Rising Star by Washington Law & Politics Magazine every year from 2010-2019, and as a Super Lawyer by the same publication from 2020-present. He also has been named to the 2021 Best Lawyers list.
