Instruct EMT and Paramedic students in a lecture setting and clinical lab. Topics of instruction include, but are not limited to, medical and trauma assessments, spinal immobilization, splinting, hemorrhage control, cardiology, respiratory issues and treatments, OB, childbirth and airway maintenance. Extensive use of Gaumard and Laerdal high fidelity mannequins.

Job duties include all aspects of flight medicine. Complicated cardiac transports, high-risk OB transports and trauma transports from scenes as well as from outlying facilities. Our team also transports pediatric, neonatal, Impella, and Intra-Aortic Balloon pump patients. As a Flight Paramedic I am required to be proficient with a wide variety of medications as well as various infusion pumps and transport ventilators. Involved in Trauma Quality Management and disaster preparedness at Orlando Regional Medical Center and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Provide or facilitate helicopter/helipad safety training for hospitals and EMS agencies within our response area. I have been given the opportunity to be a Preceptor/Evaluator for new-hire Flight Paramedics. Perform Quality Assurance review on all scene flight charts and compile multiple data points on RSI charts. Although not certified as a Flight Dispatcher, I am qualified to function in our Communications/Emergency Transfer Center.

Orlando, Florida Area

Duties included field training of new employees on all aspects of EMS including, but not limited to, radio communications, ambulance service operations, emergency vehicle driving, protocols, treatment techniques, pharmacology and documentation. Also served as a preceptor for EMT and Paramedic students from several training facilities. Taught several portions of the New Employee Orientation Program including HIPAA guidelines for EMS, violence in the workplace, safety, lifting ergonomics, Orange County Protocols, S.O.A.P. documentation, hazards in the workplace and infectious diseases. Taught monthly CPR and ACLS courses, recertification and full courses. Served as the resource person for the other Preceptors and Field Training Officers. Taught monthly in-services for employees on a variety of topics. Reviewed all employee related injuries, driving incidents and other safety concerns and determine action plans to correct issues.

Columbia, Tennessee

Duties included leading a staff of 70 employees including paramedics, EMT’s, dispatchers and office staff for the EMS system covering Maury and Lewis Counties. Conducted employee interviews as well as Performance Appraisals. Assured compliance with all state, local and federal laws governing EMS as well as Medicare and Medicaid. Restructured the documentation, coding and billing process to assure maximum reimbursement as well as compliance with federal standards. Assured compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Tracked response times and turn around times to assure operational efficiency and adjust procedures as needed. Prepared annual operational and capital budgets for each county. Prepared and delivered quarterly reports to the Board of County Commissioners and mayors for both counties. Responded to, and resolved, any complaints involving the EMS service. Prepared bids and contracts for outside vendors and assured compliance with the contracts. Upgraded the communications center from punch card system to RightCad software system with vehicle satellite tracking and state of the art computer hardware. Member of state and local committees for emergency preparedness and communications and the Tennessee Ambulance Service Association. Established Maury Regional EMS as the South Central Tennessee Regional Communications Center to be utilized in the case of any natural or man-made disasters.
