The focus of my time in this position was to gain valuable training, both on the job and in the classroom, to be applied later during my career. My time was spent in three different locations, Oklahoma City, OK; Shreveport, LA; and Canton, OH. Each location taught me valuable lessons that contributed to both my personal and professional growth. I learned how to make and keep valuable connections with my counterparts, how to manage my time effectively and how to function as an engineer in a professional environment. I rotated through various positions, engineering and otherwise, to learn how the company functioned as a whole, and the small details that are involved in well construction and operations. Each location provided me with not only a different set of operating conditions, but three incredibly unique and functional teams. As a Facilities Engineering Intern, I was given two specific problems that would immediately add value to the company and those were: lightning data and mitigation; and analysis of oil carryover at SWD facilities and mitigation. Both projects allowed me to gain valuable insight with cross-functional groups within the company as well as collaborating with industry professionals outside the company. The two projects that I worked on, and the recommendations that came from them, were implemented, and resulted in a reduction in downtime, decrease in lost production, and an increase in revenue.Lightning strike tracking and prevention Capital projects Oil carryover monitoring and prevention at SWD facilities

During my time as a Facilities Engineering Intern, my two projects were to assist in the development and optimization of a full scale stabilization facility in the Eagle Ford Texas asset as well as conducting hydraulic calculations for pipes to be connected to that facility. This involved several field trips to the existing facility and discussions with field and office personnel to determine the best path forward with the designs.

As a Production Engineering Intern, I was assigned a well-set of approximately 500 wells to monitor production, optimize, and recommend operational changes as well as writing procedures for workover interventions. All these aspects allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the whole production engineers work as well as giving me hands on experience with making changes to wells to maximize production. I worked in a cross functional group to make economic decisions and determine what value can be added at a minimal cost.• Performed well optimization• Designed and oversaw the implementation of work over procedures and recompletions.• Assisted in the day to day production and operations of Permian wells.• Assisted in team discussions regarding design and change of design for aging wells.

This was ultimately my introduction into all aspects of the Energy Industry. My main task for the summer was to learn as much as possible through interactions with my peers as well as getting hands on knowledge of field processes. I also had the opportunity to work with both the engineering staff and field staff on right-sizing the pressure relief valves that were in place on central production facilities. Through my analysis I was able to determine that the pressure relief capacities for the pressure vessels were significantly undersized and those were immediately replaced to ensure a safe process.• Developed and implemented system for quality assurance of pressure relief valves in central tank batteries• Performed well optimization for producing wells in the Bakken play.• Assisted in the implementation of pump off controllers for Bakken producing wells.• Assisted in the electrification project for the Bakken play.
