Research AssistantPRECISE is a program backed by the Department of Defense in collaboration with the NSF REU program, offering undergraduate research exposure through summer projects guided by Florida International University faculty. The initiative encompasses research seminars delivered by faculty, researchers, and industrial engineers, alongside activities aimed at fostering essential soft skills and aiding in graduate school pursuits.I was tasked with the project "Inductive Wireless Interconnects for Heterogeneous Integration." The ever-growing demands of modern electronics, including enhanced performance, miniaturization, and expanded functionality, have prompted the need for heterogeneous integration. This integration approach is pivotal in combining diverse electronic elements onto a single chip, facilitating advancements in fields like 5G, IoT, wearables, and biomedical implants. A central challenge in this process is establishing efficient and dependable connections between these components, which is where "Inductive Wireless Interconnects" offer a promising avenue by enabling data and power transmission without physical contact or wired links. In this research, two designs of coupled inductors are introduced: one incorporates fringes, while the other does not. A comprehensive series of simulations was executed to evaluate their performance within the terahertz bandwidth range (0.1THz-10THz). The simulations encompassed variations in the inner radius and separation distance between the coupled inductors. The findings highlighted that the design lacking fringes exhibited a higher resonance frequency of 0.65 THz. This was achieved with an inner radius of 15um and a separation distance of 8um.
