About William Millar
While achieving a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, I gained process engineering, material development, and computational modeling experience through internships and a research position. My time as a research assistant in a MSU bioenergetics lab spurred personal interest in the biomedical industry. This newfound passion to improve the tools available for medical research and treatments led to my pursuit of an M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. During this program, I gained academic and practical experience about medical device design/development through classes and a year-long internship with Cook Research Incorporated. After completing graduate school, I moved to Colorado in pursuit of a professional career in the biomedical industry and an amateur career in skiing. I joined the ViewRay team as a Quality and Regulatory Engineer to help further their cutting-edge MR-guided cancer therapy technology. My role in the company swiftly grew from supporting post market and data trending to also supporting regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and managing the global radiation safety program.
Listed skills include Leadership, Matlab, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, and 7 others.

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Quality And Regulatory Engineer
• Received company award for technical report, literature review, and investigation of a radiation chemistry-related potential HHE• Performed regulatory and quality assessments of manufacturing deviations, nonconformances, and engineering changes• Identified and resolved regulatory/radiation safety program compliance gaps by creating harmonized internal databases • Supported global RA submissions (CE mark, EU MDR, PMDA, etc.) and managed global radiation safety/dosimetry program• Supported implementation of data migration process, eliminating complaint backlog, and allowing real-time complaint handling• Analyzed complaint data to model post-market device performance, identify emerging issues, and influence device development
R&D Bench Test Engineering Co-Op
• Developed test criteria/protocols for formal submissions using international standards, literature, existing studies, and statistics• Performed GLP & ISO 17025 accredited (A2LA) bench studies on vascular/urological wire guides, catheters, and stents• Conducted proactive literature review and interlaboratory comparison of cobalt ion release quantification techniques to validate a test method in accordance with new EU MDR requirements and presented results to Sr. Vice President• Invalidated claim of potential device harm by developing a technique to quantify bending of 3D implanted stents using 2D images, attributing the observed bending to vessel shrinkage between postmortem and antemortem states• Developed and validated new test method to quantify the release of endovascular stent particulates during in-vitro axial fatigue• Designed anatomic models/test fixtures using CAD (Creo) and fabricated structures in machine shop following GD&T
Material Development Engineering Intern
• Prevented global production halt caused by supply chain disruption of critical frame adhesive by identifying potential material substitutes and validating suitability through mechanical, electrical, and compatibility testing • Redesigned the solar panel busbar interface to mitigate "hotspots" by reducing metal-to-metal contact resistance and optimizing performance through a series of microscopic, thermal, electrical, and mechanical tests. Presented the project and its successful results to the Vice President of R&D
Research Assistant - Computational Modeling
• Optimized and fit 100+ differential equation computational model of cardiac oxidative phosphorylation in MATLAB using experimental data to investigate the mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction in heart disease• Partnered with an affiliated research laboratory to broaden the scope of model applications to include diabetic research, simulating skeletal muscle bioenergetics under varied macromolecule diets and exercise intensities using animal data • Leveraged model to forecast and validate bioenergetic improvements in diabetic animals following Dichloroacetate treatments• Collaborated closely with graduate colleagues to incorporate model outputs into publications and a dissertation, and actively participated in presenting research findings through posters at research fairs, with a specific focus on diabetic implications
Chemical Engineering Intern
• Assisted with boiler inspections, corrosion monitoring, tank inspections, and condenser plug mapping• Increased plant efficiency by reducing system back pressure through thermal mapping of condenser inlets and steam leaks• Proactively implemented bulk chemical unloading safety assessment in response to a recent chemical loading explosion at a similar powerplant• Collaborated with operators and vendors on various equipment-related troubleshooting
