Head Of TalentBbc Worldwide Jun 2009 - Jul 2014Having established a reputation for creating IP and brands around talent I was brought into BBC Worldwide to set up and run a new talent-focused IP development and strategy division called Talent Ventures. Through the Talent Ventures business, I was able to provide well-known on-screen talent both in the UK and internationally with a dynamic and entrepreneurial partner in BBCW to help build their IP, brands and production businesses. Some of my key achievements in this role have been:• Set up Kirstie Allsopp & Phil Spencer’s indie, Raise the Roof – now one of Scotland’s biggest indies. Secured an investment of £350k for the company and in first four years generated £6m of rights revenue for BBC Worldwide.• Responsible for substantially increasing BBC Worldwide’s lifestyle catalogue by securing high profile talent to the company.• Brought key lifestyle talent to the BBC’s Features production division in Bristol. These deals stopped the department being closed down and instead turned it into one of the most successful and prolific lifestyle production businesses in the UK.• Helped secure funding for Miranda Hart and David Walliams production company, King Bert, which in turn kept the distribution of their shows at BBC Worldwide• Played a key role in keeping Louis Theroux at the BBC and in turn securing him to the BBC’s in-house production• Helped raise funding for Louis Theroux’s first theatrically released feature documentary• Put together the deal to stop Brian Cox leaving the BBC• Turned the children’s natural history show Deadly Sixty into a leading commercial brand for BBC Worldwide and secured Steve Backshall to the Natural History Unit• Helped secure the distribution. merchandising and licensing of Bake Off to BBC Worldwide• Helped BBCW Australia to market a substantial lifestyle catalogue and boosted the range of programming and talent available to the catalogue• Helped win the Australia Bake-Off commission with Foxtel -

This model set the trend for other talent like Jamie Oliver to Gordon Ramsay.• Through Pabulum I was able to transform Nigella Lawson from TV presenter for hire to high profile and hugely successful brand and IP business• Having helped establish Nigella Lawson as an international TV star I masterminded the creation of her global retail brand and licensing business Living Kitchen• Within 18 months of its launch Living Kitchen became the best selling celebrity fronted retail brand in the UK

Within a year he started producing, writing and directing corporate films including an award winning series of animated technical films for the Ford Motor Company. By 1985 William was made production manager for the company going on to be Head of Production a year later. In this role he managed all of the company’s broadcast and corporate output. As well as dealing with all suppliers from laboratories to film crew, editors and of course the unions, William was also responsible for drawing up and negotiating all the production contracts and budgets with the broadcasters at a time when their working with Independents was still very new.
