I am just starting to play with some electronic development boards. I got a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino. These low cost controllers are powerful devices. Like the Android MK808, which for $30 can do all sorts of stuff with a huge software library available. The Android IOIO (yo-yo) board looks like it has potential, but I am just going to keep with Raspberry Pi and Arduino for now. I understand enough about these devices to realize that I really want a BeagleBone or a Uno32, but these cost four times as much. I stress to my kids; everyone is carrying a powerful computational device around in their pocket. People are psychologically attached to these devices. The term "nophobia" has been used to explain people who have the fear of not having their phone. I myself am on about a 10 minute leash to my device, except during long periods of forced withdrawl, but I am still conscious of where it is at. The idea is to get these devices to reach into the real world, to reach out of the pocket and to really do something. Something like...like...come on kids...think of something here. I've got a few ideas but I want the kids to think. Maybe a gaming interface that will really shock you. It could be like a cheap amusement park 4D movie where you watch a 3D movie and they blow wind through your hair or spray you with water when the main character sneezes. Light controllers are commonplace. If I only had a very accurate 3-axis accelerometer and an accurate clock.
