Before that, he was CFO at SantoLubes/Blackman Uhler for five years where he helped add significant reactor capacity and turn the specialty chemical manufacturer profitable again. For two years prior to Santolubes, Mr. Becker was CFO of Quinter Financial Group, a real estate and private equity firm, where he helped manage 10 apartment complexes, along with initiating the start-up of a Charlotte-based textile company and large investment in a Hilton Head, SC marina. Prior to joining Quinter, Mr. Becker worked at Ranger International Management, where he analyzed high-yielding international equities for a group of open-end funds with AUM exceeding $1 billion. He also co-managed positions for the Ranger International “I” Class Fund, an international dividend/income fund that outperformed its benchmark MSCI All Country World Index by roughly 200 basis points over his tenure. He has been published numerous times in Barron’s, Fortune and MarketWatch.Mr. Becker began his investment career at David W. Tice and Associates where he analyzed international equities and published stock recommendations for Behind the Numbers. He also advised The Prudent Bear Fund, one of the first mutual funds to actively short stocks and one of the top performers during the 2000-01 Dot-com crash. In 2007, Behind the Numbers became an independent entity and Mr. Becker continued to cover a wide breadth of industries for the firm as President, while advising clients on trading entry/exit points, paired-trade opportunities and other related strategies. During this time, he delivered strong performance, as 66% of closed-out short ideas declined in absolute value, with 81% underperforming the S&P 500. Notable calls include: Arch Coal (ACI), Supervalu (SVU), Barrick Gold (ABX), Just for Feet (FEET), and Sports & Recreation (SPRC). Meanwhile, Barron’s, Fortune and Forbes featured his articles prominently in numerous publications. In 2014, Behind the Numbers merged with Ranger International.
