My name is William Nelson Spafford III. I was born on 15 April 1973, in Palmer, Alaska. I was in the US Navy reserves for eight years. I went to Navy basic training at Naval Training Center Orlando. I was trained as a Navy Hospital Corpsman at Balboa Naval Hospital Corpsman “A” school in San Diego. I went to Navy Fleet Marine Force (FMF) course at Camp LeJune and assigned to the 4thMarine division 4th Reconnaissance Battalion ECHO Company in Anchorage, Alaska at Elmendorf Air Force Base.I made a career change to the US Army, going to basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. I was sent to my first Army duty station at Fort Bliss, William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC). While assigned to WBAMC I was in the pediatrics department. I have had a few other duty stations including Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Warrior Transition Unit (WTU). I have been both the senior medic for a Battalion size element (326th Engineer Battalion) and also the lowest ranking individual (WBAMC) in the unit. I have been deployed to the Iraq theater of operations twice as well as Afghanistan (2013). I was stationed in Korea for a year from March 2002 until March 2003. I deployed from Fort Campbell, Kentucky in November 2005 with the Eighty-sixth Combat Support Hospital, to the An Naseria region in Iraq. The second, and most recent, deploywith the First Brigade of the First Armored Division. I learned Spanish in high school, Portuguese while serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Porto region of Portugal. I also speak a little German and ASL.
