Over the years I have been responsible for inventory management, food and disposables purchases, shift management, and generally keeping the kitchen clean and efficient. Currently my primary role is lead cook at The Driftwood Bistro, which features casual dining with an upscale flair at the award-winning Driftwood Estate Winery. This position requires working quickly as any kitchen job does, but also demands an eye for quality and detail. This internship was the final component of my degree plan. I was fortunate to work with Dr. Matthew Clement in the Texas State University Department of Sociology. Through this work, I became dramatically more proficient with Microsoft Excel, and became oriented with Stata software. Much of my time was spent cleaning data in Excel, but I also spent time gathering new datasets and contacting research organizations to acquire data not readily available in public digital form. My favorite place to be at school was the tutoring lab in the Department of Sociology. I enjoyed talking to fellow students with similar interests and helping others with their work. Finally in my last semester as an undergraduate a slot opened up to officially become part of the tutoring staff. Our primary focus was assisting students taking Statistics for the Social and Behavioral Sciences - a required course for many liberal arts and communications students at Texas State. The curriculum included understanding fundamental concepts such as mean, range, standard deviation, and led to students performing mathematical operations including ANOVA and Chi-square testing by hand.
