Working in the renewables team at Balmoral Group - an offshore engineering company that specialises in a variety of fields including subsea buoyancy, insulation, elastomers and renewable energy products.My typical day-to-day role involves a range of responsibilities including FEA analysis, design calculations, 3D modelling and drawings, report writing, BOMs and dynamic analysis using OrcaFlex. I am almost always working to deadlines for various projects and collaborating with various departments.Developing as an engineer and taking advantage of the extensive in-house testing facilities and manufacturing workshop at Balmoral to get hands on with the products I am designing.

Annual close interval potential (CIP) surveys over the buried routes of the INEOS FPS Forties and Shell FLAGS pipelines between Stonehaven and Forfar.• Identified areas of coating damage by measurement of corrosion protection ON and instant-OFF pipe to soil potentials over the pipelines.• Cooperated with clients and local landowners to ensure the efficiency of data collection/analysis.• Analysed and processed corrosion data for use in technical reports.

Internship in collaboration with the Field Engineer and Operations Director to complete a project with Scotia Gas Networks (SGN). • Generated a pressure-regulating station in Solidworks valid to industry standards for use as a visual aid in company presentations. Incorporated Oxford Flow products as well as other industry components.• Produced technical reports for company products and a project closure report for a project with Scotia Gas Networks.• Operated field trials at various sites and processed data to analyse product performance.• Coordinated pressure testing and various other performance tests leading to the improvement of products.

This broad-based degree developed application of academic learnings and skills to real, practical engineering problems. In July 2019 I received a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering. The degree included a fourth-year dissertation on the design of a micro-displacement based strain sensor for structural health monitoring of offshore structures and a fifth-year group dissertation on the ballistic resilience of composites using nano-materials.

Internship working in a multi-discipline environment involving oil and gas industry certification, technical design and product testing performed in the workshop. • Investigated and implemented testing standards to comply with API 598 and API 6D.• Held meetings with consultants to obtain critical information that drove product design.• Developed safe product testing procedures and composed reports detailing the steps of the test. Executed demonstrations of the tests to a small team of engineers. • Collaborated with a senior design engineer to produce a valve that complied with new industry standards.• Completed testing in project downtime e.g. high/low pressure hydrostatic leak, cyclic, tempering.

Internship developing technical experience through design and construction of various pieces of equipment in the workshop in compliance with health and safety standards. • Direct responsibility for the design and build of a brand-new hydrostatic-pressure test rig, in accordance with HSE regulations, for safety testing of pressure regulating valves.• Created a cyclic tester box from scratch using parts I designed in Solidworks and other ordered electronic components.• Constructed scaled down flow-test rigs to replicate both water and gas flow applications.• Performed dimensional stability tests on innovative Oxford Flow products to determine a supplier for parts.
