As a DevOps Engineer it was my responsibility to keep the core services of ING bank running. Besides that, I was responsible for the proper execution of changes/releases on production systems. I have been DevOps Engineer in the ING Business area, and in the area of DevOps Products, where I was partly responsible for the eReporter tool and the introduction of Stack Overflow and Splunk Synthetic Monitoring within ING.

CMI was responsible for the availability of the core systems of ING, both the Open and Closed environments and iDEAL. We were on call and were alerted whenever something went wrong. Using observability and a good dose of common sense, we estimated impact on the customer journey and opened a major incident when needed.

As 'Maintenance Architect', a new role back in the day, I was part of many projects and programmes to make sure the needs of maintenance were met -- meaning making sure observability, logging and resilience were not forgotten or pushed to the side.
