As an instructor at Painting With a Twist, it is my job to ensure that each guest that enters into the studio enjoys themselves throughout the painting process. As part of my duties, I greet each guest as they enter before checking them in and then taking them to their seat(s). Once most guest were accounted for, I would then begin to start my instruction. Throughout the length of class, I would instruct guest step-by-step on how to recreate the painting set for the particular class. This entailed going through various techniques to achieve the correct look and feel of the painting. Prior to the class beginning, I would also need to organize and set up the studio to accommodate the correct number of guest who would be in attendance. After the completion of each class I would then througouly clean the studio and all equipment/tools used during the class. This included washing brushes, wiping down tables and floors, cleaning the bathrooms and restocking materials around the studio as needed.

I was an instructor at Flour Power, a children’s cooking studio, from April 2017 to December 2018. It was an incredibly fulfilling position, of which I enjoyed attending to each day. My duties there depended on what was specifically taking place on each shift. At Flour Power guests were offered to attend cooking classes, camps, and birthday parties. I was required to know how to work in each of these different settings, and know the differences between them. Birthday parties and classes, generally speaking, ran about the same. You were given a specific set of recipes in which to teach to the class, with a strict timeline in place. I was required to see that each guest was equally entertained and satisfied in regards to the pace and manner of the class. Each group was unique, and it was crucial to be able to adjust myself accordingly to ensure the satisfaction of everyone who walked into our studio.

For nearly three years I worked at a small, Mom and Pop, pet supply store. I quickly rose from a general employee to one who was given the responsibility of opening and closing the store. My responsibilities included caring for customers by answering and assisting them, while also being responsible for overseeing that all the necessary work was accomplished during my shifts. This includes cleaning the bathing center from top to bottom at the end of the day, washing and folding laundry, sweeping, mopping, cleaning the litter boxes, restocking the shelves, as well as counting down the registers and filling out the nightly closeout reports.

I worked at the Barnes and Nobles College at CPCC Levine Campus for a year-and-a-half. While at this position I was responsible for more than just stocking books onto the shelves. I needed to know the precise location of where the books were kept so that I could retrieve them for the customers, while also quickly restocking the shelves as product grew scare. I was also tasked with ensuring that all snacks, drinks and school supplies were consistently up to date and stocked as well. I was required to know how to use the specific software program to buyback books, make tags, fill special orders, and update book prices. I would often move around the books to utilize space, which would require critical thinking while on my feet.

I worked at Smoothie King for eight months while finishing up my senior year in high school and entering my first semester of college. During every shift I was expected to make smoothies and keep all customers satisfied, learn and memorize recipes, refill ingredients, peel copious amounts of bananas, thoroughly clean blenders and other utensils. I would also complete nightly closeout reports, and count down the registers.

After my freshman year of high school I took my first job as a lifeguard. I worked with Carolina Pool Management for two summers, at the Bridgehampton neighborhood pool. As a lifeguard I was responsible for the lives of all the patrons who visited the pool. I would switch positions with my coworkers, observing and running the waterslide, watching the deep end, shallow end, and the deck. At the end of the day I would assist my fellow lifeguards in cleaning the deck of all trash, rearranging the chairs, cleaning the bathrooms, and taking out the trash. I was also responsible for checking the PH and chlorine levels of both the adult and baby pool, altering them when needed.
