As a member of the process engineering team, I assisted the quality department in assessing our production results and trying to improve the plant's efficiency by reducing batch cycle times, gaining stability of selected product group's results and completing route cause analysis on failures.The focal point of my time at the company was the project management of the installation of a new tinter dispensing system, where I organised various external contractors and our own planning department to successfully switch over to the new equipment within the given window allowed. As the team member responsible for a project which was not only a huge Capex investment, but one which demanded tinted production to be ceased at such a large production site for AkzoNobel Europe, I developed and can now prove my abilities in people management, problem solving and meeting deadlines.Furthermore, I developed and ran a pre-emptive data analysis presentation called 'trend analysis', where I used my outside perspective and outlook on the data collected on site to identify escalating issues on product groups which had not yet failed. This led to some hugely successful on-site production work, with one issue I identified from my own modelling of the software being scaled up and discussed at inter-site production and quality meetings.

After a lecturer from the Aston Careers team highlighted to me that I was the only student at the University she had met from Lincolnshire, we began to discuss why the University appeared to struggle to attract students from outside its traditional areas.We then worked together to develop a presentation that highlighted not only the benefits of Aston University and Birmingham itself, but also trying to identify other reasons for why people from Lincolnshire who attend University tend to move to Nottingham and Sheffield in the vast majority of cases. When this had been revised and reviewed, we began to promote our presentation to schools across Lincolnshire and identify the types of students who would most benefit from this.This was then launched and initially presented to a sixth form in the Sleaford area, which led to a huge amount of successful feedback both for the Careers team and the students, who gained a great deal of helpful insight into both the Chemical Engineering degree and the University itself.
