Founder, immigration and international law firm for over 33 years. Worked in White House/DOJ; Helped create MFI's US and Asia. Blockchain research and new start up. The law firm has been involved in cutting edge impact litigation on behalf of immigrants and refugees as well as foreclosed homeowners. The Senior Partner, William J. Sanchez, began his career with the Haitian Refugee Center ("HRC"), and trained under the mentorship of distinguished Immigration scholar and litigator, Ira Kurzban. Together with HRC and Kurzban, Sanchez became intimitaly involved in individual and class action lawsuits against the federal government. Most of the lawsuits were premised on the protection of immigrant's rights before the federal government. One such landmark case was McNary v. Haitian Refugee Center, Inc. (89-1332), 498 U.S. 479 (1991), which recognized the court's authority to review INS' actions under the Imm. Reform and Control Act. The court eventually reopened the cases of tens of thousands of migrant workers in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The were allowed to file for residency as a result of the case. Other cases the firm has been involved in include Haitian Refugee Center, Inc. v. James Baker, III: TheDred Scott Case of Immigration Law, as well as United States v. Arizona, United States, 567 U.S. 387 (2012), a United States Supreme Court case involving Arizona's SB 1070, a state law intended to increase the powers of local law enforcement that wishes to enforce federal immigration laws. The law firm filed the first lawsuit against Arizona on behalf of a national coalition of latino pastors and miinisters, and that case was eventually merged into the US v. Arizona case. The firm has also litigated numerous cases on behalf of refugees intercepted on the high seas. An example is the internationally recognized "car-boat" case, where Cuban refugees fashioned a 1950s Chevy into an actual boat on pontoons. The first homeowner class action of its kind was filed in NY federal court by the law firm and co-counsel, seeking to intervene in the largest lawsuit involving toxic assets and mortgage-backed securities. The lawsuit pending in NY federal court was initially filed by the federal government (Federal Housing Finance Agency) against 16 of the national and international banks involved in mortgage backed securities fraud. Class Plaintiffs believe that this lawsuit should have included homeowners from the beginning.
