During the final three weeks of his placement William has been independently managing a caseload of five to six patients, which included:- Initial assessments- Goalsetting- Pressure checks- Intervention planning and actioning (inclusive of equipment provision, education, and functional retraining)- Discharge planning- Assisting with home visits- Cognitive Assessments- Facilitating groups (falls prevention and meal prep)- Communicating with family members and carer trainingWilliam has gained further information in regard to pressure care management, stroke upper limb interventions and cognitive assessments. William completed a project including literature and materials required to further develop an upper limb therapy kit for stroke patients. This will be utilised at NERC in the future. William independently managed all relevant interdisciplinary communication opportunities, such as team meeting, cross-discipline referrals and family meetings. This communication was always conducted with factual information and in a confident manner. William has quickly developed some fantastic core OT skills that he will use in the future in a rehabilitation setting or will be able to transfer these skills into other aspects of OT with ease. William was a delight to have at NERC for the past eight weeks. There has been glowing feedback provided regarding his excellent bedside manner, flexibility and initiative from patients and staff.
