Have written several stories for The New York Times over the past four years, primarily for the Metro Desk. The stories have gotten good traction on the web, leading to coverage by other media outlets, including national television outlets. One was a 2014 first-person account of a day spent paddling a kayak around Manhattan Island (http://nyti.ms/2kt4pPS); another explored the restoration of Eleanor Roosevelt's largely forgotten girlhood home (http://nyti.ms/2AV3fU5); another illuminated efforts to preserve some of the last fishing shacks from the days of the Hudson River's once-abundant shad fishery (http://nyti.ms/2nAfdNf); Another, titled The Deadly Waterfall in the Instagram Age, covered new improvements to Kaaterskill Falls (https://nyti.ms/2w9ziuP); another covered a team of recovering opioid addicts as they trained to run the New York City marathon (https://nyti.ms/2Jydakh). Have also written stories for The Boston Globe, The New York Daily News, The Minneapolis Star-Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer and myriad other local and regional publications over the past decade.

I launched this open-ended oral history project (with feature stories and river dispatches mixed in), with the following mission: To explore the experiences and struggles of the Hudson River Valley's working class, as they process the changes that come with the area continuing to gentrify. There's a wealth of media entities in the region telling about the successful new businesses and the talented arrivers, and rightfully so. News, naturally, is rigged toward what’s new. Glossy magazines and webzines will tell you about the fresh new ways to enrich your life here in the Hudson Valley. But, beneath the veneer, there are deep pools of context often left unexplored. Much of that context is painful. Some of it is coarse. Some of it is inspiring. Wrote stories, copy edited, proofed advertisements and assisted the publisher and associate publisher in various other facets of putting together a regional magazine. The magazine is distributed to more than 400 locations throughout the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, Litchfield Hills and New York's Capital Region and has a circulation of 10,000. Berkshire Homestyle is known as "the region's magazine of good living."

Wrote two stories or more a day, focusing mainly on crimes, from arrest through the courts, and emergencies. Also covered the town of Greenport and the Hudson City School District Board of Education.

Covered breaking news for then the country’s fourth largest newspaper two full days a week for the city desk. Broke the sale of Langston Hughes’ Harlem home, covered an out-of-control Staten Island landfill fire and reported on national stories including the revived Etan Patz case and Occupy Wall Street. Conceived, pitched, reported and wrote a profile of a Saturday Night Live super fan, which was turned into a national television feature by CNN a day after it printed.

Covered high school sports, writing daily game stories and in-depth first-person accounts of outdoor adventures, including a five-day kayak trip down the entire tidal Hudson River. Worked as weekend content editor for the Register-Star and Daily Mail, uploading stories online, copy editing and perusing the Associated Press for additional content.

Covered breaking news and wrote in-depth features for the revered local daily. As weekend reporter, covered events in North Berkshire County, including a vote approval for a controversial multi-million dollar local school renovation.
