After Sonic Healthcare U.S.A acquired AEL in 2007, became part of Sonic’s operations leadership team that helped grow the company’s U.S. operation from approximately $300 million to almost $800 million.

After Sonic acquired AEL, reported initially to the CEO and eventually to the CFO in assuming a variety of corporate level operations responsibilities and ultimately establishing a national procurement function for the U.S. operation as it grew from approximately $300 million to almost $800 million. Representative accomplishments included the following:- Conducted operations due diligence for seven acquisitions and at least seven other potential acquisitions.- Developed company’s first national procurement program for all 13 Sonic laboratories throughout the U.S.- Achieved seven-figure savings year-over-year with purchasing program through upgraded procurement standards and national contract efficiencies. - Assisted with the design and build-out of three new laboratories.- Evaluated and refined menus at all laboratory locations

Was the company’s first hire and helped the two founders acquire five independent laboratories in the southern U.S. Then led all CLIA compliance and operations management for an integrated full service laboratory operation that included chemistry, hematology, toxicology, coagulation, virology, molecular, bacteriology, urinalysis, allergy testing, endocrinology, and immunoassay.Representative Accomplishments- Helped founders grow from inception to over $150 million as the company’s first employee.- Conducted operations due diligence on all five acquisitions and on five other potential acquisitions.- Led the flagship laboratory operation and provided primary support to all other labs for their corporate CLIA and operations requirements and issues.- Built and managed a first-class team of six technical managers and a Ph.D. Scientific Director as direct reports over the 40+ staff in the flagship laboratory.- Integrated and standardized the highest quality of operations for the five acquired labs that developed such a reputation to attract Sonic USA’s interest in acquiring AEL.Representative Responsibilities- Directed technical laboratory operations and oversaw quality metrics, training, proficiency testing competency assessments, personnel management, and instrument selection, and provided overall direction to flagship laboratory.- Ensured instruments and data system provided high quality results and customer service.- Ensured test methodologies had excellent quality, and monitored all phases of preanalytic, analytic and post analytic phases of testing.- Approved all laboratory policies and procedures.- Consulted with clients and physicians as appropriate and negotiated all reagent and instrument contracts.

Advanced to be Western Divisional Technical Director over all laboratories in one of the company’s two regions and held that positon for four years before the company was acquired by Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) in 1994.When LabCorp acquired NHL in 1994, was made Associate VP/Associate Regional Director in Dallas, Texas for an approximate $100 million region covering North Texas, Northern Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and part of New Mexico. Promoted to General Manager, Vice President. Representative responsibilities in that latter position included the following,- General Manager for one of LabCorp’s larger reference laboratories with responsibilities for all aspects of operations, including technical management, personnel, information systems, total quality management, distribution, client services- Responsible for overseeing three major hospital management contracts.- Made key contributions to cost containment and developed/implemented the laboratory’s budgets.- Maintained significant interaction with clients at all levels (physicians, nurses, administrative, clerical support) and supported marketing/client relations. - Was a member of several LabCorp committees involving national company initiatives.
