I am a land use planning consultant with expertise in Maui’s discretionary regulatory system and government relations. My passion is affordable housing and seeing projects through to approval. As a consultant and former Planning Director, I’m very aware of the challenges that the everyday landowner faces with what would seem to be routine permitting. Planning is about people and bettering their lives. It should aid in putting roofs over our families’ heads and stimulate economic opportunity. Our built environment should foster a sense of community while honoring our history and cultures. Certainly some regulation is necessary and environmental review should be thorough, but it is not an end in itself and we should never lose sight of the very real way it touches the everyday person.
