The New Paradigm Institute is charged with developing a universal (or truly ecumenical) paradigm of understanding, knowledge, and action capable of guiding our human family into the next phase of its cultural evolution. It draws together leading thinkers to address the demonstrably false and culturally destructive propositions animating both scientific materialism and religious fundamentalism, as well as the now fashionable conceits of European postmodernism that would deny the possibility of ascertaining any ultimate values or truths whatsoever. And it engages these issues in terms of the most compelling issues facing humankind today.This was a start-up that was funded for 15 months. It was a creative, thoroughly engaging position that brought me into the midst of the rich theological community on the northern border of the University of California, Berkeley (the so-called "Holy Hill"). Although the funder was unable to continue the program beyond 2016, we hope that new funding will appear to continue this important endeavor. In the meantime, I am taking what I learned during my 15 months in Berkeley and writing a book that I hope will serve that program's purposes.
